Benthic forms in unglazed stoneware

Hand-built sculptural works translating the unvarnished anatomies of abyssal organisms. Each piece is formed by hand using grogged stoneware, textured slips, and prolonged atmospheric reduction firings.

Material Study

Anatomy shaped by pressure

Benthic fauna evolve without regard for human aesthetics. Their spines, distended jaws, and pitted carapaces respond strictly to abyssal depth, darkness, and tectonic compression.

Coarse iron stoneware and dry mineral slips mirror these rough biological surfaces. Forms dry slowly before firing in heavy reduction kilns to produce matte, calcified finishes.

Studio Principle

Organisms formed outside the reach of daylight possess a functional, indifferent geometry that traditional sculpture often overlooks.
